Crimean War Russian Line Infantry

The start of another project as there's a little space in my 19th century schedule available with the "temporary" completion of the 1866 project. For a while I've been toying with the idea of gaming the  Crimean War, and a few favourable purchases have seen me amass most of the required lead for a reasonable price.

The first figures painted are 28mm Ebor Miniatures Crimean Russians, painted as line infantry. The flags are Venners Flags available from Caliver Books

These figures are exceptionally good value at £13 for a unit of 24 'metal' figures. They paint up very quickly, these 48 were painted together over a 4-6 hour period (mostly by using an ink was for the greatcoats, and keeping the rest of the paint work simple). All in all I'm really pleased with the speed of painting and the look of the finished units, so much so that I've already painted another 48 as Grenadiers (currently being based), and undercoated 48 more. In total I will will be painting 8 units of 24 infantry.

There will also be British....

Bavarian Infantry 1866

A small addition to my 1866 project, this time some Bavarian infantry. The figures are 28mm from Wargames Foundry, and the flags are from Victorian Steel. The painting style is in keeping with the rest of the 1866 collection, basic colours and gloss varnish. This set will give me 3 units of 16 figures.

I'm not sure where the 1866 project will go from here; at the moment I have painted everything (a rare occurrence); I do know that there will be more at some point, just not sure when and what exactly it will be.....a watch this space I think?

Things on the go at the moment include Crimean War Russians, and some Western Gunfighters that I'm painting up to go with a small scratch built Old West Town which resulted from a single text about a possible game (I didn't have any stuff at all, but I'm easily persuaded so quickly built the required set) - pictures will posted to this blog in the near future. The game of choice will be Dead Mans Hand by Great Escape Games (rules currently in the post!).

Bonnie Blue Flag Rules

A chance review on Facebook alerted me to the release of these new ACW rules. I immediately placed an order and my copy arrived a couple of days ago. After a quick read through I think they'll provide a fun game, and I'm looking forward to trying them out soon, as I actually have painted and ready to go enough for a small game on a 6ft x 4ft table.

The rules are available from Caliver Books.

Regiment zu Pferd Markgraf Philipp von Brandenburg

The first of my WSS Prussian cavalry units, Markgraf Philipp von Brandenburg, 28mm Ebor Miniatures. The flag is from Maverick Models. I particularly like the white coats and light blue combination, should look suitably dashing when charging across the table top.
