Yorkist Handgunners

28mm handgunners from Perry Miniatures plastic set WR 20 'Mercenaries', European Infantry 1450-1500, based for Swordpoint

The Wars of the Roses army is almost complete, most units are currently being based; there may be a few small additions at a later date, but it's pretty much ready for play.

The next projects include collecting a set for Test of Honour, this really seems to have caught the eye at the local club; and a new set of French Indian Wars figures for Sharp Practice and Muskets and Tomahawks (another easy to transport game for a club meeting).

I also hope to get some photos of my recently painted 15mm Napoleonic Peninsular War Anglo-Portuguese army that has already seen action twice this year; and even more amazingly victorious on both occasions!

Other news is the arrival of the eagerly awaited Beneath the Lily Banners 3; and on first impressions I'm certainly impressed, an absolutely superb book. I was hoping to get a first solo test game last Sunday, but a bout of food poisoning meant that my best laid plans have been laid waste. Hopefully in the next few weeks I'll get an opportunity to run through  the rules.

  1. Hey Meic, I too had a copy of Beneath the Lily banners arrive. Had a quick game yesterday, gotta say it's excellent fun....apart from the the 6 page QRS that is. Have you given it a spin yet?. I happened to see some of your WSS stuff on EBay earlier on, so was just wondering what period you'll fight using this rules Set? Cheers.

    1. Hi Mike, not had a chance to have a game of BLB3 yet, hoping to manage it in the next few weeks. I'll still be fighting WSS, French against British and Prussians. Also have some Dutch to paint, I've been promising to paint these for a while, just got slightly distracted. What are you using for BLB?

    2. My WSS British/Dutch and French are getting an outing at last. I've worked on the troops for 18 months or so,and with BTLB I've found a rule set I really like!,all Front Rank and as a Cavalry squadron is only 6 figures my original 12 strong units have been subdivided and I almost don't need to buy any more cav....although that won't stop me doing do of course. It's kinda hard to get away from the warm glow of ordering more figures, heh heh.

    3. I'm really looking forward to my first game of BLB3. It's so easy to get carried away with new units, always another lovely unit to paint!
Are you on the League of Augsburg Fighting Talk Forum, be great to see your figures.

  2. Hmm, I hadn't though of that, I'll post some tomorrow. Appreciate some feedback on them, I think I get them looking ok, but a unit might take me a month to complete! I just can't seme to find a technique that gives me a balance between speed and quality.

    1. Hi Mike, looking forward to seeing your collection. It might take me a bit of time to reply on LOA as my internet doesn't get connected until Tuesday....I'm using someone else this afternoon to catch up.....
PM me on LOA if there's anything you'd like to know painting wise and I can help.....I've learnt so much from other painters, wearing all have our little techniques.

  3. Hey Meic, despite my very bestest efforts I just take can't a photo SMALL enough to upload to the LOA forum, grrr!.
Let me know when it's convenient to fire some pics over for you for a squint at. I can't paint faces so they're going to have a flesh wash later. Just thinking about BTLB rules, are you using order tokens? I've seen some at LOA and the price is horrendous so I'm using homemade paper ones at the moment.
    Regards M.
