AWI British Artillery

Things have been a little hectic of late as I've just started a new job, longer days so little time for painting. Things will settle down soon, and I'll be back to painting on a regular basis. In the meantime I'll keep posting pics up of figures as I retrieve them for storage.

Still looking to arrange the first game of the New Year, hopefully soon, and it's looking likely that the AWI Brits will be getting an outing. Looking forward to fielding the Queen's Rangers for the first time.

The bases on these haven't been finished (flocking and tufts), 28mm Front Rank Figurines.

5th Regiment - AWI British

I'll post each of my AWI British Regiments individually, having just retrieved them from storage following the house move. At some point I will take pictures of the whole army, including the Queen's Rangers (hopefully in action).

The army originally started life being built for Warfare in the Age of Reason rules, with 12 figure units, and following a long time languishing in the cupboard my interest in the American Revolution was reignited when my gaming opponent Peter decided to collect the American army. We decided on using Black Powder rules by Warlord Games, and initially decided on 18 figures for each unit with 6 figures to a base. Eventually I was persuaded to upgrade the standard unit size to 24 figures, and I'm pleased with the results.
The eagle-eyed amoung you will notice that there are in fact only 23 figures in the unit, a little economy taken, which has no adverse effect when playing Black Powder.
The first unit is the 5th Regiment. Figures are 28mm Front Rank Figurines, and the flags are hand painted.

17th Light Dragoons

Returning to the American War of Independence in this post.

Below are pictures of my 17th Light Dragoons, 28mm Front Rank Figurines, the guidon is from the second squadron and is hand painted (had the figure so couldn't resist adding it to the unit).

The British had two regular cavalry units present during the war, the 17th Light Dragoons and the Queens Light Dragoons (16th). The 16th Light Dragoons are currently waiting their turn on the painting table.

Navarre Regiment - WSS French

The first battalion of my WSS French army are the Navarre Regiment.
Figures are 28mm Front Rank, flags are by Maverick Models.

There were 3 battalions of the Navarre Regiment at the battle of Blenheim. They were part of the French right wing in the first line of the defence of the village of Blenheim under the Marquis de Clerambault. After the battle they were reputed to have burnt their colours and smashed their drums rather than have them fall into the hands of their enemies. For the remainder of the war they only carried the staff with no colours, however as most wargamers I want flags and lots of them. Maybe in time if I refight post Blenheim engagements, I might model some command stands without flags.

I will be modelling the 3 battalions for the Navarre Regiment in due course.
Figures are based for use with Beneath the Lilly Banners and will also be used for Black Powder.
I really enjoy painting Front Rank figurines, and have deliberately chosen to use 'large' flags for the battalions a la League of Augsburg as I think they look particularly striking on the table top.

Seven Years War Russian Dragoons - Tobolskiy

Firstly a belated Happy New Year to one and all.

I'm returning to the 18th Century for the first post of 2015.

18mm Seven Years War Russian Dragoons of the Tobolskiy regiment, figures are from Eureka Miniatures (Fighting 15s in the UK). It's worth saying at this point that all my Russian units are in winter uniform. The flags are from Maverick Models.
Figures are based on 40mm x 40mm bases.

Three squadrons of the Tobolskiy Dragoons were present at the battle of Zorndorf 1758, part of the command of Major-General Gaugreben.
