SALUTE 2016 - Show Pictures 1

Yesterday saw another Salute come and go. The day started early as I travelled down to London in the good company of my friend and wargaming compatriot Peter.

First impressions were that the queing system seemed better organised than last year and seemed to move quickly and smoothly. That is not meant as a criticism of last years event, far from it, more to recognise the hard work and effort to make the day as pleasant an experience for all by the South London Warlords. Organising an event of this size is no mean feat, and once again I am grateful and thankful to the Warlords for their outstanding effort.

Onto the show itself, the hall was full of traders, demonstration games, participation games, and workshops on various aspects of the hobby, painting, basing etc. Everything was well laid out with plenty of space to move around.

There will follow a series of posts of photographs from the show, where possible I will try and identify the game, hopefully correctly. I tried to photograph as many games as I could, but struggling with one crutch I know I missed many, that is no reflection on the quality of those games missed, but more an indictment of my lack of agility to return at a more opportune moment and take pictures.

First up a game that immediately caught my eye as I have a particular interest in the English Civil War was a ficticious event - What if the Earl of Essex had gone to Bristol?

Panzer IV AUSF H Mit Schurzen

Panzer IV AUSF H Mit Schurtzen from Warlord Games to add to my German forces.

Thoughts this week are turning to SALUTE on Saturday, I am looking forward to seeing the display games and taking lots of photos which can be seen on the blog in batches, the first of which I hope to get posted Saturday night on my return.

Confederate Infantry

Three more units to add to my growing Confederate forces.

First up is a 7 stand unit of Perry Miniatures plastic infantry, bearing a flag of the army of Northern Virginia 2nd 1862 pattern.
Next are two 5 stand units of Sash and Sabre Conderates, bearing the flags of the 26th Alabama and a generic confederate battle flag.
The flags are from GMB Designs and Maverick Models.

I've also added a parade shot of the all Confederate units painted to date, starting to ge tthe feel of an army coming together. Plenty more to add, and of course Union forces to add at some point.

Hetzer Tank Hunter - Jagdpanzer 38(t)

Another model from Warlord Games, this time a Hetzer Tank Hunter, or officially the Jagdpanzer 38(t) armed with a 75mm gun. I love the low profile on this vehicle and had to add one to my German forces, just hope it's not too effective when I'm playing as the allied forces...

Puma Sd.Kfz 234/2 Armoured Car

It's been a while since I posted anything World War II on the blog, so I thought I'd show the Puma armoured car that I painted a few years ago now to reinforce my Bolt Action Germans. The model is a Warlord Games resin one, no longer available I believe as they now sell a plastic kit.

This was my first attempt at painting any World War II vehicle, and I'm fairly pleased with the outcome, though I think I was a little heavy handed with the weathering powders. I don't have an air gun, and I did think long and hard about buying one. However after seeing pictures of German troops applying paint to their vehicles by all manner of methods, from spraying to brushing (including one that looked like they were using a yard brush), I decided to just paint them with my little brushes.
