French Indian War

I've found my French Indian War project started many years ago and abandoned. They were intended for use with Muskets and Tomahawks, but only the French forces were started. I've a similar number of British and an Indian war party to paint as well which can be used on their own or added to the French or British as allies. I also found the buildings that I'd started work on, these need a little work to finish off but are pretty near complete.

The figures are 28mm Crusader Miniatures. This small force gives 2 groups of 12 line and one group of 10 Grenadier.

AWI British infantry skirmishing

Been a while since my last post, I return with something new and hopefully something improved. The new is the beginning of rebuilding my AWI collection. I was initially going to start with the Royal Welch but I had these six figures already undercoated sitting on the side, so they are first up. The figures are 28mm Perry Miniatures British infantry skirmishing. 

The something improved is with reference to my new light box. Finally conceding defeat to the fading winter light I have invested in a basic light box. I'm hoping that this gives me the freedom to take photos when I have spare time available rather than leave it to chance; as well as improving my photographs. At least my light will be consistent, even if my photographic skills aren't!

US Vehicles

Further progress with my WWII American forces for Bolt Action. Some vehicles, all 28mm Warlord Games miniatures. I have also completed the first batch of Infantry and support weapons these will be  posted as soon as I can get a chance to take photos.

On the gaming front the fledgling club has just met for the second time, SAGA was the game of choice, I fielded Scots and running true to form I lost spectacularly...

Starting the club has changed the focus in my painting schedule with my WSS taking a slight back seat as I concentrate on smaller club sized games. Figures are being painted up for SAGA and Muskets and Tomahawks. My Anglo-Zulu project will be receiving some additions, the first batch will be some NNC and Irregular cavalry to enable me to play The Men Who Would Be Kings. Then there will be further additions in the shape of Zulu huts, more cavalry including dismounted versions, and a small Naval detachment. Other plans are to work on Swordpoint armies, some will require a few extra figures and a little rebasing (my pet hate!); others will be new armies. Also on the assembly line is the much awaited Toy Story force for Dragon Rampant with the final figures just arriving; though I did purchase some extras for the Minions as a result but games will not be dependant upon their arrival. I won't be neglecting my WSS for too long, in all likelihood I'll have a unit or two on the painting table to work on as the mood takes me. I'm itching to paint my French Musketeers!

It's been a while since I've posted an update on my Seven Years War progress, which given everything that has been happening has decidedly slowed. Still I do have another regiment to share, this time the Prussian Fusilier Regiment number 40. The figures are 28mm Front Rank and the flags are from GMB Design.

BANANAS!!!!

Apologies for the shortage of posts recently, as I haven't been feeling particularly well. So as a surprise I thought I'd return with a little project I've been assembling for the girls to allow them to fight the Battle of the Sandpit, these will be 2 forces for Dragon Rampant; the first is the Minions, and the second will be Toy Story based.

Rough points ideas are included in captions, I'm still thinking of terrain ideas, I have some ready such as alphabet blocks, and discarded crisp packets. Other hazards might include an area of foul smelling boggy ground called the cat trap! 

I was hoping to have the game ready for the girls to play over half term holidays, but I'm waiting for the Toy Story forces to arrive. The good news is that once they do it'll take very little time to get them ready for battle.

Crimean War Russian Artillery

The ECW conference was excellent, with many interesting papers being presented. Unfortunately Dr Abbiss was unavailable and as a consequence the paper: Warfare in the Wilderness: Indian War 1688 wasn't presented, which was a great shame as I was personally looking forward to this presentation as inspiration for potential gaming. However, the papers presented on the day were inspirational enough and have certainly given me pause for thought when considering certain aspects of the period. These conferences are an excellent day out, details of future events can be found on the Helion Publishing website or Facebook page. 

At the conference I picked up a copy of No Armour But Courage, Colonel George Lisle 1615-1648, by Serena Jones, published by Helion as part of the Century of the Soldier 1618-1721 series. I'm part way through this book and it is proving to be fascinating read. If you're not familiar with this series there are some very interesting publications; a couple which have caught my eye are On Gladsmuir Shall The Battle Be! The Battle of Prestonpans 1745 by Arran Johnston, and The Bavarian Army During the Thirty Years War, 1618-1648. The Backbone of The Catholic League, by Laurence Spring (one of the speakers at the conference).
